Atlanta Communications, Operations and Maintenance Program (ACOMP)
As Prime Consultant, Wolverton is responsible for improvements at 163 intersections throughout the City of Atlanta to bring existing traffic signals and equipment up to current standards. Work includes intersection inventories, program master planning, identification of deficiencies, identification of operational improvement and safety improvements, coordination of maintenance activities between GDOT and City of Atlanta Traffic Engineering Department and identification of signal systems to be retimed through the project. Wolverton conducted operational improvement analysis and reports at 140 of these intersections to determine what modifications and operational improvements would be feasible. These operational improvements ranged from removing an unwarranted signal to adding left-turn phases, adding lanes, modifying the interchange to a diverging diamond and providing additional on/off ramps at interchanges. Wolverton also conducted safety analysis at 53 intersections to determine what improvements could be made to reduce the number and severity of crashes. These safety improvements ranged from adding a protected left-turn phase and crosswalks, to realigning offset intersections to create a four-legged intersection.
