Atlanta Gas Light STRIDE Project – Johnson Header
Since 2010, Wolverton has partnered with AGL Resources (now Southern Company Gas) to provide surveying services along miles of gas line routes. For the Johnson Header project, Wolverton surveyed 11 miles for the design and construction of the 24-inch Johnson Road (Fulton County) to Powers Ferry Road (Cobb Co.) gas line as part of Atlanta Gas Light's STRIDE program. The project included property line and right-of-way resolution of over 200 parcels of land. Close coordination with Georgia Power and Norfolk Southern Railroad was required as the gas line design impacted properties belonging to both parties. Cross-sectioning of the Chattahoochee River was also required for the directional drilling design at the river crossing. We performed Subsurface Utility Engineering Quality Level-D through Quality Level-B along the route and at road crossings to minimize utility impacts. SUE was also used to locate the existing AGL gas lines within the established easements as the route survey was being performed. The project also included easement plat preparation for the acquisition of permanent and construction easements. We also participated in the construction phase of the project by staking all easement limits and pipeline centerline. As-Built locations of all welds, bends and valves were also surveyed as pipeline was being installed by the contractor and as-built drawings were prepared. This project was completed under greatly compressed timelines and required close coordination with AGL and the surveying and SUE teams.
