Jimmy Carter Boulevard PointCloud Rendering
Wolverton completed a 3D High Definition Survey of the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard (SR 140) and Buford Highway (SR 13). Through the use of Terrestrial Laser Scanning, Wolverton developed a Point Cloud of the existing conditions along an approximately one mile corridor of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Buford Highway. The point cloud was registered and analyzed through a network of control data that was established along the route through the use of GNSS/GPS and Robotic Total Station technology. This allowed Wolverton to capture the necessary features of the corridor without having to close off lanes to traffic, nor did we have to have our personnel physically enter the travel lanes. After the point cloud was reviewed for horizontal and vertical accuracy, we used TopoDOT software to extract surface features such as curb lines, pavement crowns, sidewalks and utility structures that were used in the creation of the Digital Terrain Model. All data was imported into Microstation V8i w/ InRoads for the final deliverable that met the specifications of the Georgia Department of Transportation as well as the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation.
