North Leg Corridor Improvements
Wolverton was responsible for the concept, preliminary, right of way and final plans for this Transportation Investment Act (TIA)-funded operational and safety improvement project between Wrightsboro Road and Sibley Road in Augusta, GA.. The existing signalized intersection with Wrightsboro Road experiences heavy traffic and high accident rates that have exceeded the statewide average. The surrounding area consists of commercial properties, an apartment community, a school, post office, and library. The proposed improvements included adding dual left turns to the intersection of North Leg Road and Jackson Road at Wrightsboro Road which increases the level of service of the intersection, improving the skew angle of Sibley Road to address sight distance and other safety concerns, and adding sidewalk and curb and gutter throughout the entire project. Because this project was TIA Band 1, a design to budget and schedule philosophy, as well as extensive utility coordination, had to be maintained at all times in order to ensure all right-of-way, permits and design were completed in order to begin \construction before the end of 2015.
